The temporary barriers at the Crematoriumlaan–Paddepoelsterweg cycle path intersection on Zernike Campus will be replaced with a permanent layout in August 2026.
Every day, large numbers of students use the Crematoriumlaan–Paddepoelsterweg intersection on their way to and from Zernike Campus. At the same time, funeral processions regularly pass through this intersection on their way to and from the crematorium.
A funeral procession is an important moment during which family and friends say their final goodbye to a loved one. To help prevent accidents between cyclists and funeral processions, temporary barriers have been in place on the cycle path since May 2025. These barriers have proved effective by improving the flow of cycle traffic and making cyclists more aware of the priority situation at the intersection.
Based on these positive results, the temporary barriers will now be replaced with a permanent layout. The works will take place in the week of 17-21 August. In addition, new signs will be installed to raise awareness of funeral processions travelling to and from the crematorium.
The work will be carried out by Broekema Wegenbouw B.V.
