UMCG is continuing the development of the new Central Laboratory for Diagnostics and Research (CLDR). Over the coming period, the preliminary design will be further developed into a final design, bringing the realization of the new laboratory building another step closer.
Every day, innovations with a real impact on healthcare, technology and sustainability are developed at Campus Groningen. Across the various laboratories on Zernike Campus, companies are working on technologies that help detect cancer, stop life-threatening bleeding and enable new materials for medical and chemical applications.
An idea conceived in a Groningen laboratory has grown into a tablet that is now being tested in patients for the first time. In the world of drug development, that is a rare achievement. Yet this is exactly what entrepreneur Kees van der Graaf, owner of Sulfateq, and Rob Henning, pharmacologist at the UMCG, have accomplished with SUL-238, an investigational drug that could potentially help treat chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, heart failure and kidney disease.
