Proxima is a student complex on Zernike Campus, which opened in August 2024. With no fewer than 401 rooms in four different buildings, Proxima offers pleasant and modern living space for students. Each room is approximately 18 to 20 m² in size and is fully furnished with a bed, wardrobe and desk. And best of all? At the start of the academic year, the so-called “peak concept” means that as many as 802 students can live in Proxima!

How Does the Peak Concept Work?

At the beginning of the academic year, finding a room in Groningen can be challenging, especially for international students. Proxima offers a smart solution: rooms can be temporarily shared by two students. This means you'll share a room and split the costs with another student for the first three months. After that period, you'll have the room to yourself again. Perfect, right?

What Else Does Proxima Offer?

Proxima is more than just rooms. You'll have access to various facilities and amenities that make your stay even more comfortable:

  • Spacious Communal Kitchen: Each house features a large communal kitchen of 120 m², where you can cook, eat, and relax with your housemates.

  • Bike Storage and Parking: There’s bike storage for 800 bikes and 12 car parking spaces.

  • Green Living Environment: The area around the buildings is filled with greenery, including lawns, picnic tables, and even recreational elements like a volleyball court and a ping-pong table.

  • Convenient Services: Proxima includes a management office, mailboxes, a parcel locker, and a laundry room. There’s also a sharing cabinet where you can exchange or share items with your fellow residents.

Sustainable and Flexible Living Space

The rooms at Proxima are designed with sustainability and flexibility in mind. The units are modular, meaning they can easily be adapted to meet students' needs. While the buildings are temporary, they will be available for at least ten years. This initiative helps address the housing shortage in Groningen, particularly for international students.
