The LIFE Cooperative successfully hosted its fourth annual LIFE Science Conference yesterday, bringing together researchers, policymakers, and partners from both academia and industry at Forum Groningen. The central theme was “Sustainability in Healthcare.” CC Diagnostics emerged as the winner of the 2025 LIFE Science Award during the exciting finale. A highlight of the conference was the presentation of two royal honors (Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau) by Groningen Mayor Roelien Kamminga to two former board members of the LIFE Cooperative, Ton Vries and Johannes Wolters. They received this recognition for their exceptional contributions to the organization and to science.

The LIFE Cooperative is the initiator and organizer of the LIFE Science Conference and Innovation Award.
The conference featured a rich program, including a presentation of the LIFE Cooperative’s Industry Agenda in development. Inspiring keynotes were delivered by international scientists such as Prof. Jochen Mierau (UMCG, Lifelines) and Annelies de Lange (VIG, Association of Innovative Medicines), who shared new insights on sustainable innovations in health and care.
The four companies nominated for the Innovation Award (MemoryLab, QT Sense, Sabiad, and CC Diagnostics) delivered their pitches in a thrilling finale. CC Diagnostics from Groningen emerged as the winner, receiving the €7,500 prize from Linda Dijkshoorn, board member of the LIFE Cooperative.
The LIFE Cooperative promotes innovation in the life sciences by facilitating collaboration between entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors. Through various programs and events, LIFE supports the development of technologies that improve health and well-being. The cooperative represents over 60 companies, ranging from ambitious startups and innovative SMEs to international players. Together, they employ over 4,750 FTEs and generate €500 million in revenue.

Who is developing the most impactful innovation in Life Sciences & Health in the Northern Netherlands? Five companies are in the running for the LIFE Science Innovation Award 2026: Flux Robotics, Limosa Immunodiagnostics, SPCTR, MimeCure and GlycanScan International. The nominees will present their innovations on Tuesday 22 September during the fifth edition of the LIFE Science Conference in Groningen. An independent jury will select the winner, who will receive a €10,000 cash prize.
A much-loved tradition The Campus Trail has become a much-loved tradition on campus. Students, employees and professionals from companies and organisations across the campus ecosystem lace up their running shoes for a sporty 6.4-kilometre route through buildings and past some of the campus’s unique labs. The rapid growth in registrations shows just how much the Campus Trail has become part of the campus community. The combination of sport, meeting others and the unique campus setting makes the run a great opportunity to connect with people outside the usual work and study environment. And there’s no need to head home as soon as you cross the finish line. During the after-party, hosted by Contini Catering, participants can relax together, enjoy a drink and celebrate the afternoon. ZonMw is expected to open the final call for proposals within the PharmaNL Shared Development Infrastructure (SDI) program line. This program line focuses on strengthening the infrastructure for the development, upscaling, and production of innovative medicines in the Netherlands.
