UMCG Vision for the Future of Organ Transplantation

The UMCG Transplant Center is a global leader and pioneer in the field of organ transplantation and machine perfusion. Currently, more than 100 donor organs are preserved annually at the UMCG using perfusion technology, including livers, kidneys, lungs, and hearts.

To expand and optimize this process, specialized “hubs” for donor organs will be developed in the coming years. Within these hubs, organs will be assessed, enhanced, and repaired where possible. This “Organ Assessment and Repair Center” (Organ ARC) will occupy a prominent location on the UMCG’s Healthy Ageing Campus.
